Hi everyone! My name is Lisa, and I’m one of the expats from our Intro to Mexico team. I’ve been visiting Mexico since 2008, lived in Puerto Vallarta for a bit, and now reside in San Cristobal de las Casas in the highlands of the state of Chiapas. For the past few months, I’ve been in the US due to the sudden passing of my Mom and ended up being in PA for the 2024 presidential election. I had friends and family asking about Mexico, and so many people on social media were absolutely stunned by the election results and not knowing where to turn. That is when us expat folk created Intro to Mexico.
We understand first-hand how challenging it can be to move to a new country and culture, learning all the in’s and out’s of everyday life, renting a home, buying a car or getting residency, to list a few things. The purpose of this Substack is to bring people like you together and help out in every way we can with online Q&A sessions, Substack chat, and articles.
The US is in one of its most challenging times in its young life, and I suspect things are going to get worse before they get better. I know I’m concerned for the safety of my family who are still in the US. My daughter is an artist and a political activist. My son-in-law is Haitian, and my grandson is biracial. They are living in a very Republican-MAGA area in the Northeast. I’m sure a lot of you have similar stories.
I know a lot of people are looking to stay and fight, but with the internet and so many things we can do just from our cell phones, we can do that from anywhere we live. It’s okay to want to be safe and protect our families. It’s okay to live in a country that has a slower and relaxed way of being. I can confirm that your nervous system will thank you. We can fight for our country and Democracy from almost anywhere.
Stay tuned for posts, chats, info for our Q&A’s and if you’re ready, we do immersive relocation experiences and longer-term residency stays to help anyone looking to relocate a helping hand in the process.
You can visit our website for more info at introtomexico.com or reach out to me directly on Substack.
This is so interesting as when I went to Mexico, I experienced it all super quick to see as much as possible. It's interesting to think that some of my experience may not have coincided with the beat of the local people there. Here's what I did during my time visiting for a fortnight: https://open.substack.com/pub/aliceiscuriousernow/p/two-weeks-in-mexico?r=5cup2l&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
Why Chiapas?
